Copying Layouts Across Reports

Copying Layouts Across Reports

What Are Report Layouts?

Layouts are the Fields used in Report results and the order in which they're displayed. They're used in the Results summary you can view in Action Network, and any CSV file you download.

What Does It Mean To Copy Layouts Between Reports?

Often when running Reports you'll want to see the same Fields in your results each time. If you already have a Report set up with these Fields, in the order you want, you can copy the layout into another Report.

How Do I Copy Layouts Between Reports?

1. First, make a note of the Report you wish to copy a layout from. In this example I'll be copying the layout from the All Activists Report into a new Report names Members Who Like Biscuits.

2. Set up your Report using the Query you want to use to target Activists. Once you've completed this step you'll arrive at the Choose Data page, which will already be populated with the default Fields set by Action Network.

3. On the right-hand side of the page you'll see a box with a dropdown menu and the words Copy Layout.

4. Click on the dropdown menu and select the name of the report you want to copy the layout from.
This is a searchable menu, so you can start typing the name of your Report to save time scrolling through the list.

5. Once you've selected the Report just click on the Copy Layout link.

6. You'll receive a warning to confirm you want to apply the new layout. If you're happy to proceed simply click OK.

7. The page will refresh with the new Fields selected, in the same order as they appear on the Report you're copying them from.

8. Click on the button marked SAVE & GET RESULTS, and your report will calculate and return all the Fields selected.

Why not set up a report that can be used as a master template for your Report layouts? That way you, and other administrators can easily identify and remember which Report to use. Alternatively, you could establish the fields you need in each Report and make sure these are always selected so you can copy a layout from any, confident that you'll get the Fieds you need.
