The bulk of your emails are likely to be targeted to members who live in your local party area, but there are a number of scenarios where you may wish to see those who don't live within the area. You can use the Queries in this guide to target reports and emails to capture members outside your local party area.
Members From Other Local Parties
All Members- Within & Without Your Local Party Area
If you want to email all members, regardless of where they live you can use a Query built around the Membership_Status field. In the example above you can see we're targeting all members with a Membership_Status of Current, Pending or Grace.
You can of course target just one of these groups, but it's important to remember that if you're targeting more than one Membership_Status you should click on OR in the top left of the Query builder or your targeting will return zero activists.
Members From Specific Local Parties
You may have some members who've subscribed to your emails from neighbouring local parties and may want to target them for some emails. In the examples below we'll assume we're emailing from Manchester Green Party and want to include members with a Membership_Status of Current or Grace.
In the example above we've chosen to target members in Trafford Green Party and so we've set up a Query that targets in much the same way we'd target our own members and simply replaced the Local_Party value with that of a neighbouring party.
In the second example above you can see that we've included two local parties as a group and the same two Membership_Status values as a separate group to give us a rule based on the condition:
Local_Party is equal to Manchester Green Party
OR
Trafford Green Party,
AND
Membership_Status is equal to Current
OR
Grace.
Using this method will allow you to choose as many neighbouring parties as you'd like, whilst avoiding sending email to those far outside your local party area.
All Members Outside Of Your Local Party Area
If you want to email all members outside of your local party area it's as simple as using your usual local party members query, but setting the Local_Party filter to
exclude.
In the example above we're targeting an email from Manchester Green Party that we want to go to all members who aren't in our local party area who have a Membership_Status of Pending or Current.
Local Party Members & Volunteers Who Don't Live In Your Local Party Area
It's not unusual to have some volunteers, and occasionally members of your local party who live outside of your local party area. In cases where a member who lives in another local party area, but has opted to join your local party their Local_Party value can be set manually by the digital team. They'll just need to raise a support request. Once their Local_Party value is set they will then be captured in your normal local party member query.
If you're lucky enough to have some volunteers from another local party, who don't wish to transfer their membership to your local party then they can be targeted by the use of a Tag.
In the example above we've used a Tag- MGP: Out of Area- to include these members in our email targeting. So the Query is created based on the rule:
Local_Party is Manchester Green Party
OR
they have the MGP: Out of Area tag,
AND
Membership_Status is Current
OR
Grace.
Of course there's no need to create an extra tag to achieve the same result. You could use an existing Volunteer or Officer tag.
