Making Sure Your Map Is Accurate When Creating Action Network Events

When creating an Event in Action Network that will take place in a physical location a map is automatically added to the Event page that activists will see. This map is generated based on the address details you enter in the event address field. The address should be entered as it appears on Google Maps to enable a location to be returned. So instead of The Corner of Green Street, you may enter 62 Green Street. The map won't always be accurate though, and may drop a pin at the wrong end of the street or in some cases many miles away.

How Can I Make Sure My Map Location Is Accurate

The first thing you can try to ensure your map is accurate is to amend the address field with variations of the locations address. Try searching the location in Google Maps and paste in the address as it's displayed. So for example, searching for Southgate Station suggests a value of 'Southgate Station, Southgate Underground Station, High Street North, London'.

We can then add this into the address field and check if our map displays the correct location by viewing the event. If it's not we can check if the address has another variation by looking at the information panel in the left of Google Maps. Here we can see the address listed as 'High St N', which we can add to the address field for our event.

If this still returns an inaccurate result you can guarantee the correct result by using the coordinates of the location, which you can easily grab from Google Maps. If you right-click on the map in the precise location you're looking for you'll see the coordinates at the top of the list of menu items that appear. Clicking on these coordinates will copy them to your clipboard. You can then paste them into the address field of your event. In this example the full coordinates are 51.63241021174852, -0.12779000151362663, but you don't need to include all the numbers after the decimal point. The first five should be enough to plot the point accurately.

Once you've pasted in the coordinates you can check the map is showing an accurate location by viewing the Event page.

If adding coordinates to correctly plot your location they will appear to anyone viewing the Event page like this:
