MODX: Editing Your Homepage

MODX: Editing Your Homepage

Each part of your website can be easily amended and configured from the Manager Page. The front page of you website brings together most of the key elements of your website — and each relevant section is simply described below.

  1. Website Address
Your live website will be found at a green party address in the form https://localparty.greenparty.org.uk/. The support team can configure this for you.
  2. Header Logo
The header logo for your website, which is normally provided when the website is created, can be changed from the Home Page in Template Variables->All Site Settings.
  3. Main Menu
The main menu is created automatically if you uncheck the box ‘Hide from menu’ on any page in the top level of your website.
You can change the order of the menu by moving pages in the Document Tree as described in the Document Tree.
  4. Splash Banner
You can add up to four Splash Banners to your website. They should be 860×305 pixels in size at 72 pixels per inch and uploaded to your images folder. Each can have a link to another page.
  5. Splash Buttons
You have three Splash Buttons to configure; the standard set are for Sign Up, Join and Donate. Each should be 420×139 pixels in size at 72 pixels per inch. Each can have a link to another page.
  6. News Headlines
By default your latest news stories will appear on your home page. You can add news stories along with a thumbnail image. The guide to adding stories is in Adding News Stories.
  7. Featured Video
You can add a featured video from YouTube on your Home Page->Template Variables->Links. The link to your YouTube page, if any, is set in Context Settings.
  8. Supporter Sign Up form
Signing up supporters is one of the main reasons for having a website. Anyone who signs up on any Green Party website will be added to CiviCRM and will appear in your local supporters list as long as they enter a valid postcode.
You can add this Sign Up form to any page of your website by checking the Sign Up box in Template Variables->Right Hand Column on any page. If this doesn’t appear, you first need to add the Sign Up form content — please ask the support team for help with this.
You can define the Thank You page for your sign up form on Home Page->Template Variables->Links.
  9. Footer Column Links
You can define up to four columns of links that will appear at the bottom of every page on your website. Active parties use this to draw attention to their campaigns, elected politicians, special content on their website or active websites in their region.
You can configure these in the Links Grid section in Home Page->Template Variables->All Site Settings.
  10. Action Links
You can configure your Social Media links and important links such as Join, Donate and Sign Up in Home Page->Template Variables->Links so that they appear at the bottom of each page.
  11. Footer and Imprint
The footer of each page automatically duplicates the Main Menu links across your website.
It is very important that you have an up to date Imprint on every page. Open a support ticket if you need to change the imprint on the Context Settings page.
