MODX: Adding & Managing News Stories

MODX: Adding & Managing News Stories

The news page for your website displays a date ordered list of all of the news stories that you create. As well as displaying on your news page the top four or five stories also appear on the Home Page of your website.
Each story is displayed with a thumbnail image (which you create proportioned to 16:9 format), a headline, date and summary which will link through to the news article. Common to other pages you can define the right-hand-column content for every news story in the Template Variables tab of your page.

Managing News Stories

The News container is normally called News in the document tree. Clicking on this will open up the Container page where you can manage all of your existing stories and easily create a new News story by selecting the ‘New article’ button. This will allow you to create and edit a News article in the same way you would any other page.
You can also easily manage existing pages by editing, deleting or unpublishing stories — this will allow you to create draft stories more easily and better control when you wish stories to be published.
You can safely ignore most of the tabs on this page as the settings are defined when your website is created and don’t need to be amended.

Creating A News Story

You can edit and manage news articles in the same way you would edit a normal page with a title, content area for composing your article and so on.
Remember to add a short one or two line summary as that is what will appear on the home page and news page of your website for each news article. On the left you have more options for publishing dates and times which is useful if you wish to schedule a news announcement or embargo something until a specific time.
You can specify the thumbnail image in Template Variables->News Settings tab.
