MODX: Managing The Right-Hand Column

MODX: Managing The Right-Hand Column

You manage all your Right Hand Columns and their items from your Home Page. When you create a new Right Hand Column Item on your Home Page it is available on all pages on your website by selecting a checkbox. So you can have different items in the right hand column of different pages and, whilst this is a little more effort up front, it makes your website much more flexible and it is easier to add items to pages as you build your website up.

If you open your Home Page and go to Template Variables->Right Hand Column you can add and edit new items. Click on the Add Item button to add a new item.

Editing An Item

You can an edit existing item by right-clicking on the Title of the item.

This will open up an editing window (Editing the content of an item) where you can specify the content of each item.

Start by adding a Heading — this will appear above the content on your website.
If you want the item to act as a link to another page on any website, enter the URL for the page in the Heading link.

Switching on Right Hand Menus

Once you have created Right Hand Column Items from your Home Page you can switch these on throughout the pages in your website.

On each page of your website navigate to Template Variables->Right Hand Column. Unlike the Home Page you’ll just see a list of checkboxes. Simply check the ones you want to appear on that page.
To change the order of menus you can right click on a title and select Move to Top or Move to Bottom or drag and drop the item where you want it in the list of items.
