MODX: Problems Saving A Page

If you have problems saving a page, there are a number of well-known causes which are worth investigating as you may be able to solve the problem yourself:
  1. oversize images: make sure that, apart from Splash Banners, none of the images you have uploaded are more than 600 pixels wide at 72 pixels per inch; note that some programs may report the pixel width on your screen after they have reduced the image to fit; you need the pixel width before any reduction;
  2. dead links: this may happen because you have linked to a Splash Banner or an image or a file on another website which no longer exists; wherever possible, copy images and files to your MODX images and files folders so that this does not happen (of course, this may not be your fault; an earlier Website Manager may have done this and you are left to pick up the pieces);
  3. duplicate resource alias: if you use the duplicate option to create a page or you create a new page with a very similar title to another one on your website, you may find that there is another page, possibly hidden within a folder of pages, with the same resource alias (see Editing Pages); you need to edit the resource alias so that it is not exactly the same;
  4. duplicate or out of order menu index: each page has a Menu Index in the Settings Tab; the Home page is 0 and the one below it in the Document Tree is 1 and the one below that is 2 and so on; if you use the duplicate option to create a page, you need to make sure that you change the Menu Index to one greater than that of the lowest page in the Document Tree; normally, if you move a page up or down the Document Tree, MODX adjusts the Menu Indexes to reflect the new order but there are occasions when this does not happen correctly; check that there are no duplicate Menu Indexes and that they are all in the correct order (MODX can normally cope with a missing Menu Index as long as the order is correct).
