Monitoring Recurring Donor Status With Action Network Reports

Monitoring Recurring Donor Status With Action Network Reports

Monitoring the status of your recurring donors in Action Network is easy, thanks to the inclusion of three targeting options:
  1. Active Recurring Donors
  2. Failing Recurring Donors
  3. Cancelled Recurring Donors
You can either target all recurring donors, or target activists based on a specific Fundraiser.

What Do The Statuses Active, Failing & Cancelled Mean?

Active & Cancelled statuses are pretty self-explanatory. They are members who have a current recurring donation set up, or have cancelled their previous recurring donation respectively. Failing Recurring Donors are those who have an active recurring donation set up, but for whom their most recent payment has failed. Their payment will be attempted again, but after multiple failed attempts at collection the payment will be cancelled.
Why not customise the emails that are sent to donors when a payment fails to check if there's anything else you can do to help? You can find out how here: Getting Started With Action Network.

Example Query: All Active Recurring Donors

The Query above will capture all Active Recurring Donors. You'll usually want to capture all donors, regardless of their subscription status, so make sure you tick all of the boxes in the Email Subscription Status box.

Example Query: All Cancelled Recurring Donors Who Gave To A Specific Fundraiser

To track the number of cancelled donations from a particular Fundraiser use the Cancelled Recurring Donors filter, combined with the Actions filter. To use the Actions filter just start typing in the name of your Fundraiser and select it from the list.
Please note, if an Activist has set up a new recurring donation to another of your Fundraisers they may not appear in this report.

Example Query: All Current Members Who Have Never Set Up A Recurring Donation

You can use the exclude rule to capture those who have never set up a recurring donation. In the example above we've combined a Regional_Party filter, a Membership_Status filter and the three Recurring Donation Filters to capture all current members in the North West region who have never set up a recurring donation through Action Network. If creating a Report at local party level simply replace the Regional_Party filter with Local_Party.
Remember, if you have members donating by other means they won't be accounted for in these reports, so it's always a good idea to check current Direct Debits, Standing Orders, and other payment methods to ensure you're not targeting Activists who give by other means.
