What Is A Recurring Upsell?
A Recurring Upsell is a one-click method of converting a one-off donation into a regular monthly donation. If the Recurring Upsell option is enabled, anyone who makes a one-off donation of less than £60 will be presented with the option of making their donation a monthly recurring gift. The amount of the monthly recurring payment is based on the amount they have donated.
If the donation is between £5-9, it asks for a £5 recurring donation
If the donation is between £10-24, it asks for a £10 recurring donation
If the donation is between £25-39, it asks for a £15 recurring donation
If the donation is between £40-59, it asks for a £20 recurring donation
Should I Enable The Recurring Upsell Option?
Enabling the Recurring Upsell option is a matter of personal choice, but there are certain things you should consider.
- The Recurring Upsell option has the potential to increase the number of your donors giving regularly.
- Recurring Upsells are a one-click transaction in Action Network. When a donor clicks to convert their donation to a regular gift they're not prompted to confirm their choice. This can result in the occasional accidental upsell. You should make sure your donors know who to contact if they have any problems with their donation.
- It's more effective to direct your potential donors to a monthly donation page in the first instance if seeking to increase recurring income.
How Do I Enable Recurring Upsells?
1. After you've created your Fundraiser click on Recurring Upsell.
2. Tick the box labelled Enable Recurring Upsell.
3. A text box will appear. The text within is what your donors will see after making a one-off donation. Some default text will be populated automatically. You can amend this text and use the formating options to add in images, videos, links or other text formating.
If you amend this text make sure you make it clear what the donor is agreeing to. Their donation will be converted to a monthly recurring donation, with their next payment take in a month's time.
4. Once you're happy with your text click on the button marked SAVE OPTIONS.
What Do Donors See When Recurring Upsells Are Enabled?
Once someone donates between £5-59 they'll be presented with a pop up that gives them the option of making a monthly donation. It'll contain any text you've set up, a button to confirm they're happy to make a recurring donation, and a link marked NO THANKS, which will close the pop-up and display the thank you page.
If they opt to make a recurring donation then they'll receive a confirmation message informing them that their donation will start in a month's time. They'll also receive an email receipt confirming the amount taken today, plus the amount of their recurring monthly donation.
