Removing A Tag From All Activists

Removing A Tag From All Activists

Removing Tags from all Activists is easy, but is irreversible. You won't be prompted to confirm your choice, so take care to choose the correct Tag, and make sure you're happy to remove the Tag from everyone.

How To Remove A Tag From All Activists

1. From the Start Organising menu head to DETAILS, move your cursor over Tags and click on the list icon that appears to the right.

2. Either find the Tag in the list on the following page, or use the search box next to the + ADD NEW TAG button to find the Tag you want to remove.

3. To the right of the Tag name you will see some icons:
  1. Edit: This allows you to edit the Tag name.
  2. Delete: The bin icon allows you to delete the Tag entirely.
  3. Delete Data: The file icon with an x in it allows you to remove the Tag from all Activist Records.
  4. Note: The sticky note icon allows you to add an explanatory note to a Tag, so you and other administrators can see what the Tag is used for in future.
As we want to remove the Tag from all Activists we need to select the Delete Data icon.

4. You will see a box pop up in the top right of the screen confirming that the Tags are being removed. Depending on the number of Activists Tagged this may take some time to complete, so any reports targeting this tag may not reflect the up to date information immediately.

Does Deleting The Data Delete The Tag Too?

Using the Delete Data function removes the Tag from every Activist Record, but it doesn't delete the Tag itself. This means the Tag is still available to use, and can be assigned to Activists again. This can be useful when you need to reuse the Tag from time to time, but those who are Tagged can change. For example, we may Tag members as Proxy Voters for a particular vote, and then remove it once the vote has taken place. We can then reuse the tag for any future vote without the need to create a new Tag each time.
It can also be used to maintain lists that may change frequently. For example, each week every Action Network Administrator is tagged as such. The following week the the Tags are removed, and then re-added to the current list of administrators. This allows us to easily maintain an up to date mailing list of current Administrators, and communicate important updates.
