You may have notices that the Files feature for your Action Network group isn't available. By default this feature is turned off when a group is created. This guide explains who can request access, how to apply, and what happens after you submit your request.
Why Is The Action Network Files Feature Off By Default?
All files uploaded to Action Network are publicly accessible. To reduce the risk of sensitive or confidential information being shared by mistake, we only enable this feature when it's requested and clearly needed.
If you group has been given access:
- Don't upload anything containing the identifying information (e.g. membership lists).
- Don't upload confidential or sensitive documents that shouldn't be publicly available (e.g. strategy documents, financial records).
For most groups, there should be no need to store files in Action Network. If you're unsure then you can contact the Digital Support Team to discuss your needs.
Who Can Request Access To The Action Network Files Feature?
Any current admin for an Action Network group can request that the Files feature, but it's important that all admins are aware of how the Files feature works, and what should and shouldn't be stored within it.
How Do I Request Access To The Action Network Files Feature For My Group?
To request access to the Files feature
fill in this form. To avoid any unnecessary delays please make sure:
- You are a current Action Network administrator for the group you're requesting the files feature for.
- The email address you enter is associated with an active membership, and is up to date (i.e. not in Grace).
- You submit a separate request for every group you're requesting the feature for.
We also ask what you plan to use the Files feature for. This helps us to understand if Action Network is the best option for your needs, or whether another solution would be more suitable.
We aim to review requests within two working days. If approved we'll let you know via email. If we need more detail or can't approve your request, we'll explain why and do our best to support you with alternative solutions that suit your needs.
Ongoing Access Reviews
We may periodically review how the Files feature is being used for groups who have it enabled. If it's not being used as intended or there's a better alternative, we may remove access or suggest a different solution. We'll always try to give you notice and help you transition if needed.
