Can I Have My Green Party Email Address Forward To Another Mailbox?

What Is Email Address Forwarding?

Email address forwarding is when emails sent to one address are automatically forwarded to another email address. For example, any email sent to techsupport@greenparty.org.uk is forwarded to support@greenparty.org.uk automatically. There are circumstances when forwarding is useful, but it also presents additional risk and can lead to the possibility of data breaches. In this guide we'll go through when it is, and isn't appropriate for us to set up a forwarding rule.
If you've been provided with a Green Party email address it is expected that you will use it to carry out party business. It's not a personal email, and shouldn't be treated as such. In most cases it shouldn't be used as the address associated with your membership. You can find out more about this here: How To Request A New Green Party Email Address.

Forwarding To Another Green Party Mailbox

In most cases it's perfectly fine to request that a forward is set up from one GPEW issued email address to another, for example contact@localparty.greenparty.org.uk to coordinator@localparty.greenparty.org.uk. However, you may wish to consider a catch-all forwarder if you're trying to consolidate many unused mailboxes, or just want to ensure emails arrive in a monitored inbox.
We're also happy to set up forwarding rules to your Groups own Green Party domain if you use your own mail provider.

Forwarding To A Personal Mailbox

We won't set up forwarding to personal mailboxes, so please don't ask. There's an inherent risk in forwarding emails intended for an officer of the party to a personal mailbox. This could lead to data breaches and cause difficulty in complying with Subject Access Requests.

Existing Forwarding Rules

There are existing forwarding rules set up, and we can provide details of any for your Group if you wish to check them. We can amend or remove these rules, but we won't amend them to include forwarding rules to personal mailboxes.

Catch-All Forwarders

Catch-All Forwarders will forward all emails to a certain domain to a single email address. So if you previously had candidate email addresses of kamala.khan@anytown.localparty.org.uk, jennifer.walters@anytown.localparty.org.uk, and scott.lang@anytown.localparty.org.uk who are no longer candidates we can set up a rule so that any email sent to a non-existent anytown.localparty.org.uk is forwarded to another of your mailboxes.
