Green Spaces: Jargon Buster

Green Spaces: Jargon Buster

Green Spaces is our member-discussion platform, to allow you to connect, and organise with other Green Party members. It's a vital part of our policy-making process, but can be used to discuss a whole host of topics. In this guide we'll go through some of the terms you may see when using Green Spaces.
Spaces is accessed via the Green Party Members' Website. If you're having trouble logging in check out this guide: How to login to the Members website and Green Spaces using the new Login.

Fundamentals

  1. Feed: This is like the sort of news feed or timeline you see on social media, with updates from all of the Spaces you're a member of, or following, all in one place.
  2. Activities: Activities are actions such as liking or commenting on a post.
  3. Messages: These are direct messages sent to or received by you. They're not public like updates posted to Spaces.
  4. Profile: Exactly what it says on the tin. Every user has a profile where they can update their picture, or other details they want to share with other members.

Spaces

  1. Space: A Space is an only group discussion area. They can exist for local, regional, or self-organised groups. There are also spaces to discuss, and contribute to policy-making.
  2. Stream: The Stream is the news feed of an individual Space.
  3. Post: Anything you, or others share to a Stream is called a Post.
  4. Members: A Member is anybody who has joined a Space.
  5. Owner: This is the person who has full admin-rights over a Space.
  6. Administrator: This is somebody who has almost all permissions for a space, but can't delete the Space or change the Owner.
  7. Moderator: This is somebody who can't change Space settings, but can moderate posts. For example, they may delete a post, or comment that is considered abusive, spammy, or not relevant to the group.

Modules

  1. Modules: These are features that can be added to a Space to help you organise, and engage your members.
  2. Calendar: The calendar module allows you to create and view events for your group.
  3. Files: The space to organise documents.
    1. Directory: Directory and folder are used interchangeably and mean the same thing. It's a place where documents are kept.
  4. Link List: An area to share and organise links to websites and resources.
  5. Meetings: This module allows you to create meetings, including creating agenda items. Any meetings are added to the Calendar module automatically.
  6. Polls: This module allows you to create polls for members of your Space to participate in.
  7. Wiki: A way to create, edit, and collaborate on pages with members of your Space.
