How To Change The Donate And Discuss Button Links In Your WordPress Site

It's not necessary to update the Donate & Disccuss buttons at the top of your WordPress site but many local parties choose to do so. It's important to understand where the links direct visitors to if you choose not to update them.
  1. The Discuss button will direct visitors to the GPEW Facebook page.
  2. The Donate button will direct visitors to a GPEW Action Network donation page.
Most local parties, or groups, would prefer any donations to be made to them rather than the national party and we've made it easy to update this donation link should you need to. You'll just need to have a donation page set up already.

How To Edit The Donate Button

1. From your WordPress Dashboard use the menu on the left of the page to select Appearance, followed by Customise.

2. On the following page you'll see a new menu on the left of the screen. Select Site Identity.

3. In the Site Identity options that appear just go the section labelled Donate link and add the address of the donation page you want to link to.

4. One you'd added the link just head to the top of the screen and click on the button labelled Publish, and your new donation link will be live.

How To Edit The Discuss Button

Whilst editing any page there are two ways to access the Global Settings to update the Discuss link. You can bypass steps 1 & 2 below by using the keyboard shortcut:
  1. CTRL+U on Windows.
  2. Command+U on Mac.
1. With a page open for editing, go to the menu in the top left of the screen labelled Currently Editing Page. Click on the down icon to open the menu.

2. From the menu that appears click on Global Settings.

3. On the Global Settings window which appears click on JavaScript.

4. Click into the text box that appears and enter the following.
  1. jQuery("div.wrapper-gp-branding-strip div.container a.right-button.bg-gpyellow").attr('href','https://www.facebook.com/GreenPartyNW/');
Just replace the link with the page you want to link to.
Once you're done click Save and the Discuss button will link to your chosen Discussion page.
