Members who haven't provided an email address are added to Action Network in the same way as all other members. They're given a false email address which starts with their Chargebee ID, and have been assigned to one of two email domains- gpew.org.uk or gpew.co.uk. You may also come across some in the format
firstname.lastname@gpew.org.uk.
We continue to welcome members who choose not to use email, and although the number of new members without email is small it's worth checking your new member reports regularly to see if a new member would benefit from a welcome call.
How To Find Activists Without Email
To find activists without email in Action Network you'd simply need to add a filter on the Email field value of %@gpew.%. This will capture all email addresses with a GPEW domain, to ensure you capture both gpew.org.uk and gpew.co.uk addresses.
For example, if you were running a report to identify all Current Members for your local party, you'd use a Query like the one below.
All activists with a GPEW email address are automatically unsubscribed from email shortly after being added to Action Network. This is to prevent unnecessary bounces. Since these email addresses don't exist sending an email to them will record a bounce. To make sure you're capturing all activists you can select all email subscription statuses when creating your report.
What About Members Who Share An Email Address?
Currently, members who share an email address are not listed separately within Action Network- and only one record will exist showing the membership details of only one Activist. It's more challenging to manage these records, as we've found that activists who share an email will complete Action Network Actions (Forms, Fundraisers...etc), with their shared email and their personal details.
We do plan on adding false email addresses to the second joint member on joint plans, so you can see their membership information- but this won't prevent members completing Actions in separate names.
How Do I Update An Activist Email Address?
If an activist lets you know that they have an email address that they'd like to use for their Green Party membership they can email
members@greenparty.org.uk or, if you're a registered officer, you can do this on their behalf. Just be sure to include the activists name, and the email address they're currently registered with. Members with a valid email address will be able to change their email via the
Member's Site without having to email the Membership Team. Please don't update their email address directly within Action Network.
