Which Email Address Should I Use When Adding An Action Network Administrator?

When inviting an Action Network Administrator to your group via Action Network you may think it wise to invite them using their Green Party email address. This may be an appropriate course of action if they have a permanent, and personal email address in the format firstname.lastname@greenparty.org.uk, but in most cases you should avoid using a Green Party email address.

Which Email Address Should I Use?

As all members have an existing Action Network record it's best to use the email address associated with this record. This prevents the creation of duplicate records, used for the simple purpose of acting as an Action Network admin. It also prevents Admins from having to switch between logins when taking Action as a member or acting as an administrator.

Why Can't I Use A Role-Based Email?

You likely have a number of email addresses set up in the format role@localparty.greenparty.org.uk for your local party, and may think it a good idea to use these to enable continued access to Action Network when a committee handover takes place. There are a few drawbacks to this.
  1. Any Actions (including donations) taken by an admin whilst logged in using a role-based email will show as being taken by the Activist associated with the role-based email, and won't show up on their individual Activist Record.
  2. It will create an unnecessary Activist Record used only for administrative tasks.
  3. It's not particularly secure. Action Network Admins have access to a significant amount of information on our members. Using a role-based email means that you have to rely on an incoming committee member changing both the Action Network password and the password associated with the role-based email to ensure secure access to this data.
  4. It could result in loss of access if 2-Factor Authentication is not disabled before handover.
If you have added a role-based email for your membership you should update this by following this guide: Updating Your Details Through The New Green Party Member's Website

Do I Need A Different Email For Each Action Network Group I'm An Administrator For?

No. You can use one email address, and therefore one login for all of your Action Network needs. You can easily move between different groups for which you're an admin using either the Dashboard or the drop-down menu in the top right hand corner of the page labelled GO TO A GROUP.
Simply click on the drop-down menu and either scroll down to find your group, or start typing the name of your group until it appears.
