How do I create an Action to grow my campaign on Action Network?
Action Network is a digital mobilisation platform which your Green Party group can use to grow your local campaigns and drive action in your community.
At the center of Action Network are "Actions", which include: Forms, Petitions, Events, Ticketed Events, Fundraisers, and Letter Campaigns.
Each Action your create will have its own URL link which you can promote on your social media channels, through your emails, or on your Wordpress Website using the Wordpress plugin for Action Network.
When someone takes an action and they opt in to your Email or Mobile SMS list, you will be able to send them emails to ask them to take other actions, such as attending action days or giving money.
Growing your email list is critical to having a larger audience to mobilise for campaign activities, so you should always be incorporating Actions into your social media posts, emails, and website so that you can help your Green Party group grow.
Forms
Forms are useful when you are building a generic sign up form or when you need to customise what data you are asking for with Questions and Custom Fields.
Petitions
Petitions are useful to rally a group of people around a cause or issue. They are most effective when the issue is relevant to your audience and the action you are asking them to take seems appropriate to address the issue.
Events
Events are useful when you want people to RSVP, such as for an action day. Once you have a list of RSVPs to an event, you can send a reminder email everyone who filled out that event form by creating an email and selecting "Took Action: [Event Name]" as your audience.
Ticketed Events
Ticketed events allow you to take a payment for a ticket and issue a certain limit of tickets.
Fundraisers
If your Green Party group has set up a Stripe account, you can use Fundraisers to take donations. If your Stripe account is set to GBP, then your Fundraisers will have GBP on the public facing form (even though it has USD in the setup screen).
Letter Campaigns
Letter Campaigns allow you to send a letter to a particular public official or institution. To upload a Custom Target, watch the video above.
Pro Tips for using Actions
Use a form to collect the minimum amount of information that you need to be able to engage someone to take further actions. Start with: First Name, Last Name, Email (required by Action Network), Postal Code, Country (required by Action Network). The more you ask people for, the lower your conversion rate will be.
Use the Custom Redirect on the Thank You Page to direct me to take an upsell action, such as a donation, or to Join the Green Party, or to visit a page which gives them additional options. Find it on the 'Responses' tab of the 'Manage' page for your Form, after a draft has been saved or it has been published.
Use Action Network's Source Codes to keep track of which channel is bringing the most conversions to your form. By simply adding ?source=source-name to the end of an Action URL, you can see a breakdown of all the sources that led people to convert.
Make sure to update the share image and share text so that you have a nice branded preview image and display text when your Form is shared on popular social media platforms. Find it on the 'Sharing & Tracking' tab of the 'Manage' page for your Form, after a draft has been saved or it has been published.
