Before You Start

Warning
Use IMAP, not POP3
When asked to choose an account type, always select IMAP. Do not select POP3 - it downloads emails to a single device and can remove them from the server, which means other devices and webmail will no longer see them. If you are not sure what this means, see Should I Use POP3 or IMAP For My Green Party Email?

You will need three things:
  • Your Green Party email address (e.g. yourrole@localparty.greenparty.org.uk).
  • The password you were given, or that you set through webmail.
  • A Mac running macOS (Apple Mail is pre-installed).

Setting Up Your Email

  1. Open Mail on your Mac.
  2. From the menu bar, choose Mail > Add Account.
  3. Select Other Mail Account, then click Continue.
  4. Enter your name, your full Green Party email address and your mailbox password.
  5. If Apple Mail asks for more settings, enter:
    a. Username: leave this blank unless your mailbox uses a different username
    b. Account Type: IMAP
    c. Incoming Mail Server: imap.stackmail.com
    d. Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.stackmail.com
  6. Click Sign In.
  7. Click Done to finish adding the account.

Verifying It Worked

  1. Check that your inbox loads and any existing emails appear.
  2. Send a test email to yourself to confirm both sending and receiving work.
  3. Check your Sent mailbox - the test email should appear there too.

Troubleshooting

Authentication keeps failing: Check that the email address and mailbox password are correct. If you entered a username, leave it blank unless your mailbox uses a different username.
Can receive but cannot send: In the account server settings, check that the outgoing server is smtp.stackmail.com and that you are using the same mailbox password.

If neither of these solves it, raise a ticket and include your macOS version and any error messages you see.
