This guide covers adding your Green Party email to the default Mail app on iOS. The setup is done through your device's Settings app, not inside Mail itself.
If you have done this before and need the server details, skip to the quick settings reference below.

Before You Start

Use IMAP, not POP3

When asked to choose an account type, always select IMAP. Do not select POP3 - it downloads emails to a single device and can remove them from the server, which means other devices and webmail will no longer see them. If you are not sure what this means, see Should I Use POP3 or IMAP For My Green Party Email?

You will need three things:
  1. Your Green Party email address (e.g. yourrole@localparty.greenparty.org.uk).
  2. The password you were given, or that you set through webmail.
  3. An iPhone or iPad running iOS 16 or later.

Setting Up Your Email

  1. Open Settings on your device.
  2. Scroll down and tap Mail (or on older iOS versions, Passwords & Accounts).
  3. Tap Accounts, then Add Account.
  4. Tap Other (at the bottom of the list - do not select Microsoft Exchange, Google, or Yahoo).
  5. Tap Add Mail Account.
  6. Enter the following:
    a. Name: Your name as you want it to appear on outgoing emails
    b. Email: Your full Green Party email address
    c. Password: Your email password
    d. Description: Something like "Green Party" (this label appears in the Mail app sidebar)
  7. Tap Next. iOS will try to auto-detect the settings.
  8. If it asks for server details, make sure IMAP is selected at the top (not POP), then enter:
    Incoming Mail Server:
    a. Host Name: imap.stackmail.com
    b. User Name: your full email address
    c. Password: your email password
    Outgoing Mail Server:
    d. Host Name: smtp.stackmail.com
    e. User Name: your full email address
    f. Password: your email password
  9. Tap Next. iOS will verify the settings.
  10. Make sure Mail is toggled on, then tap Save.
Tip

iOS usually detects the correct port numbers (993 and 465) and SSL settings automatically. If you need to check them, go to Settings > Mail > Accounts > your Green Party account > Account > Advanced.

Verifying It Worked

Open the Mail app. Your Green Party inbox should appear under the account name you chose. Emails will start syncing - this may take a moment. Send a test email to yourself to confirm both sending and receiving work.

Troubleshooting

"Cannot Verify Server Identity" warning: This can happen because the shared hosting certificate does not match your custom domain name. Tap Continue to accept it. The connection is still encrypted.
Authentication keeps failing: Make sure your username is your full email address in both the incoming and outgoing server fields. The password is case-sensitive.
Mail app is not loading emails: Check your connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data). If the connection is fine, go to Settings > Mail > Accounts > your account and verify the server settings match the quick reference table above.
Can receive but cannot send: Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts > your account > SMTP > smtp.stackmail.com. Make sure the port is 465, SSL is on, and authentication is set to Password using the same credentials as incoming.

If none of these solve it, raise a ticket and include your device type, iOS version, and any error messages you see.
